There are literally thousands of programs online designed to help you accomplish some task or other easily such as improving your computers speed, building your website or just improving your position online. Either way we have decided to review a few of the programs here at Arran wood internet services and give you our opinion on them.

First our top ten programs that we ourselves swear by on all of our own systems...
Spybot - Spybot is an excellent free program to keep your computer free of spyware adware and general nasties that slow your computer and can seriously effect your internet surfing.

Ad aware - Ad aware like Spybot also cleans your system of nasties and basically anything that one misses the other finds; together Spybot and Ad aware are the perfect combination to keep any computer clean.
Both of the above programs are completely free.

Tune Up - Tune up formally known as Tune up utilities is a brilliant program designed to clean your computers registry with a click, the program offers a lot more features than this but this is the one outstanding feature called "one click maintenance".

Download Manager Review

 

First of all we have placed the entire list of download Managers we have tested in Alphabetical order, not in order of Advice, we have done this because you probably have some kind of download manager now, and would therefore, like to see the review first?

 

Download Accelerator Plus

Hum... Well to be honest we can’t make too much of their Privacy Policy, it is full of contradictions, but if you take, what we feel should be the normal actions and only provide a Online e-mail addresses when completing forms (i.e. disposable hotmail addresses etc) then that form of spam should not bother you to much, that aside, the program as a whole was not to bad, but many times it tried to download the entire page that the download links were on, this will become an ever increasing issue soon as measures to prevent “page ripping” are ever too common, hence you may find less and less downloads will be available to you, with programs like this, and after viewing several other programs within the tests we feel this neither had more features, nor any other outstanding features that made it better than the rest, another annoying thing about this program was when loaded it seemed to guide you to several well known Ad ware sites, inclusive of the well known Cydoor! Well you have our judgement, if you feel it’s worth a go then it’s all up to you but read on and find many and better alternatives.

 

Download Express

Quite a good program, great speed at downloading with a full 10 connections, as this is now pretty much the norm, this will break down the download into 10 manageable portions and then try to download each at optimal speed all at the same time!, again this is not really new technology, but it’s catching on fast and will very soon become common place, so much in fact that most of the programs reviewed on this page permit 6 or above connections.

At time of writing, this program is Free for non-commercial use, and for that price who can argue?

we also ran several Spyware removal programs over it and nothing pleased to say.

 

Flash Get

Warning Spyware!, this should be first and foremost on your mind before choosing software, and this has several different Spies hidden, but this is only with the free version I assume?, they also have a shareware version available, but with 5 download streams as default, although expandable to 10, we feel that money can be better spent elsewhere, not to mention that the amount of freeware and Spy free alternatives available, on the net, lots within these pages too, that again are far better in respect of functions and general quality than this program.

One of the Spies contained within this program is the well known Cydoor.

Fresh download

Again an Average program, with the basic features, very simple to use, but you must get the latter versions of this program, as many people had problems with the IE (Internet Explorer) integration, I am pleased to say this is no longer a factor with the downloadable version.

Downloads were pretty quick with the Splitting of the file, as per normal now, and again this is a Free offering, for non-commercial use, that is Spyware free too!

When it comes to uninstalling this program don’t use the Uninstaller that came with it as for some reason it won’t remove all files, but any files left won’t affect your system performance.

Get It

Forget it! Enough said!

No to be honest with you this seems to me that the designers thought of the idea of a download manager, without bothering to look if others are available, so they went off and built one, it’s far to complex it respect of the interface, and unfortunately you are not rewarded in any way by extra features etc. it’s just a simple job made difficult.

GetRight

Well despite the old versions (from the dawn of Download managers) this is now I am pleased to say Spy ware free! and as this company has been dabbling for some time in this area, they have produced quite a good program.

This slips right into IE and runs very well to, good download speeds, although only available for a free Trial period of 30 days.

It lacks certain features that are creeping into this area, but its clean simple and does the job it’s designed for, but if you are looking for more features then read on……

Go Zilla

Highly hyped by themselves and others who use their services ADVERTISERS!

This is a program is full of Spyware, Adware.

It also infects your browser with Spies; some of the more known spies include eZula and Radiate, so with other options available, that are far superior to this, even within this page, give this a miss.

 

Internet Download Manager

Nice simple interface, good speeds achieved in tests, normal splitting of files etc, but one thing that goes strongly in the favour of this little program is it’s uncanny ability to work with virtually any browser, so if your not to keen on IE (as most Spyware and Nasties are wrote to work with IE), then you may find this worth a look?

It only available as a trial ware, but at 60 days, you should of either decided to choose another program or buy it by then anyway, it’s all Spy free, and the use of functions seems easy too, so all in all this program has it’s niche market and I feel could please them quite well.

 

Leech Get 2003

Talking of niche markets, this program is similar to the above in respect that it caters for other Browsers, and slips quite easily into all that it works with, but I feel and again this is a personal view, that download managers should be little programs that get the job done hassle free, but this is designed for someone who wants to see everything! It has a very easy to use interface but, it’s big, it is full of help every step of the way, and it’s fast too.

It is meant to be free, and although true it limits some of the functions for commercial users, and with not a Spy in sight this again gives this program extra brownie points.

 

All in all great program especially for the user who likes to know everything that is going on!

 

Lighting Download

A great alternative to this companies other title Getright, I can only assume that the reason for two titles is due to the past history and reputation that followed of containing Spyware?

Anyway this is Spy Free, and a good overall program, has some quirky features that I have never seen before, but as download managers are coming in leaps and bounds in features, this again can and should be expected.

It has a very simple GUI (the thing you use to make things happen), and it’s a free trial for 30 days too, in this time you decide, I have viewed better and worse programs, but if the features in this version are anything to go by, you may find this company is in the headlines for integrating new features? (This normally means the price increases in the future, for initial purchase).

 

Net Ants

Appropriately named program, as it’s full of Spyware, and therefore sends your information to the colony.

As I am Anti Spyware, you know my verdict……Leave well alone!

 

Net Transport

The outstanding feature of this program is its multi lingual options, other than that this, the program is standard, with an easy to use GUI (the thing you use to make things work). It is Free for non commercial use, and with no restrictions on features, this is altogether a great little program with admirable download speeds, utilizing the Splitting of download to increase speed.

 

ReGet Deluxe

Cracking program! This is feature packed, and adopts several user modes, for everyone from absolute newbie’s to Professionals, to find this all in one package is great, it also has 16 download streams by default, so for Broad Band users this can reach excellent download speeds, as I advise it you already know it’s Spy free, but this is only a Free trial version of the program, but within the 30 days you have to evaluate this for yourself, you may find that starting on a newbie GUI and progressing to Pro, is quite simple within one program, (this is a reason I am always pleased to see a Multi knowledgeable interface, as you can learn all the features before moving on to the next level, as you are then familiar with the program)

 

Star Downloader

Another good Program available for free, this is Spy free, and very easy to use, it’s basic but it does what it’s meant to, Download, it splits up the download as most on test, but into 3 or 4 depending on connection speed, still quite good though, like most others this program permits queuing, so you can select say 10 files and get on with other things, knowing that once one has finished it will move on to the next.

The only gripe I had is that the download from the site, once received required updating, although again this caused no problems and didn’t attempt to install Spyware of any kind.

WGET

Well this I feel is for the Pro only user, although GUI’s (the things you press to make things work) are available, the program is command line based (you have to type everything).

As the entire above are designed primarily for Windows, this program is an option for Linux, Mac Os, and other Operating systems.

It also lacks the features of Splitting downloads to increase speeds, but if you are a in your element Typing commands etc, this may suit you down to the ground.
